Dr. Nielsen believes that each individual is unique as is their experience of themselves.  In her work, Dr. Nielsen accompanies each client on a journey to discover a greater understanding of who they are while reducing suffering, and forging a more meaningful quality of life.

It is from a humanistic and psychodynamic foundation of authenticity, acceptance, and nonjudgment that Dr. Nielsen approaches her conceptualization of and work with each client. Deep listening and respect for the individual’s well-being as well as their problems allows her to develop strong working relationships with clients. Therefore, she approaches each session with great warmth and compassion for the individual’s experience.

Dr. Nielsen enjoys working with diverse individuals.  Her clinical diagnostic and therapeutic experiences have taken place in a variety of settings including: residential substance treatment centers, health and human services organizations, therapeutic day schools, and college counseling centers. Much of her work has been with underserved populations, first generation college students, and individuals with complex trauma, and severe mental illness.

Dr. Nielsen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking from Pacific Lutheran University, and a Master’s of Theatre Arts from San Jose State University. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and is now completing her Post-Doctoral Fellowship after earning a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Nielsen would love to share in your journey towards wholeness and help you gain a deeper understanding of the self and find a richer, more fulfilling life.
